Searching for Snow

Have your skis or snowshoes been all dressed up with no place to go most of this winter? Ours, too.

Indicators of Climate Change in the Northeast 2005
notes significantly less snowfall at research stations throughout New England - in some cases as much as 60 inches less.

Additional indicators of a shifting climate you may notice as winter melts into spring this year: earlier ice-out and lilac blooms.

The University of Buffalo is one of a growing number of forward-looking campuses working on creating an "inventory" of their greenhouse gas emissions - working from the premise that you can't reduce what you don't measure. Graduate student Jim Simon has undertaken this project for the UB Green Office, here he shares his observations about this vital-but-challenging process.
