Salons Get Savvy About Global Warming Portsmouth, N.H. (April 1, 2002) In a first-time collaboration, Clean Air-Cool Planet and Aveda, the Minneapolis, Minn.-based maker of pure plant-based beauty products, are celebrating April as Earth Month 2002 with a campaign at regional salons that promotes individual action in the fight against global climate change. During the month of April, Clean Air-Cool Planet and other environmental groups around the country will educate Aveda employees on the implications ofand solutions toglobal warming. In turn, participating Aveda concept salons, spas, and stores in New England will spread the word to their clients about the environmental effects of global warming through a variety of promotional activities, such as Cuts-for-the-Earth and sales of the new Aveda Indigenous Purifying Collection. Salons may also request that clients sign a Global Action Pledge, which allows individuals to make a personal commitment to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions throughout the coming year. "Aveda's corporate leadership is remarkable," says Adam Markham, Clean Air-Cool Planet's executive director. "To unite two seemingly unrelated conceptsbeauty supplies and climate changegives renewed meaning to responsible consumerism. We're thrilled to join forces with Aveda and help expand the public's awareness about climate change here in New England and around the world."
